Oklahoma City in 1910 was a young town, not yet two decades past its 1889 land run, and it had grown to roughly 64,000 people. Its growth rested on railroads, with several lines converging there, and on the livestock and cotton trade that moved through its rail yards and commission houses. That same year, Oklahoma City won the contest to become the state capital from Guthrie, a victory that drew new offices, hotels, and state business to the city after statehood in 1907. Downtown streets were filling with brick commercial blocks, streetcars, and new residences as civic boosters competed for prestige and investment. This panoramic view records a city that its residents saw as a rising regional center, still raw at the edges but confident about its future.
