Few details accompany this glass negative, which the National Photo Company labeled simply "Pitchers" and dated to September 6, 1924, though the library notes that neither the title nor the date has been independently verified. The word could refer to baseball pitchers, to vessels for holding liquid, or to some other subject, so the image is best understood alongside the company's other work. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., recorded city streets, public events and everyday life in the early twentieth century, and its glass plates later came to the Library of Congress as a gift. Expect streaks and blemishes on the surface, which result from the natural breakdown of the original coating.
