At the corner of 10th and G Streets NW, First Congregational Church was one of the earliest Congregational congregations in Washington, dating to the early 1820s. Around 1920, the National Photo Company was documenting the capital's streets and public buildings, many of which were later reproduced as postcards and views. The streaks and blemishes across the glass come from the natural deterioration of the original coating, a reminder of how fragile these early negatives are.
