This glass negative records a stretch of Princeton Street in Washington, D.C., with street numbers 612 to 642, which places the view on a residential block rather than a famous landmark. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm that documented the city's streets and buildings in the 1910s and early 1920s, made it, and its date of 1919 or 1920 is inferred from neighboring negatives in the same group. Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library of Congress in 1947. Look closely at the surface, where streaks and blemishes from the aging of the original coating are visible.
