The name "Times" heads this view of 1219-21 Shepherd Street in Washington, D.C., probably dated to 1919 or 1920, though the title comes from unverified notes on the negative sleeve. The National Photo Company made the image on an 8 by 6 inch glass plate, and the firm recorded the capital's streets and buildings in the years around the First World War. The plate shows the streaks and blemishes that come from aging coatings, which soften some fine detail. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
