The record names the Soldiers' Home in Washington, D.C., the veterans' residence on the city's northwest edge, which the government established in 1851 for disabled and aging soldiers. President Abraham Lincoln spent summers at the grounds' Anderson Cottage during the Civil War, a connection that gives the site lasting interest. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made large numbers of American views for postcards and travel books in the early 1900s, produced this 8 by 10 inch glass negative between about 1905 and 1920.
