The section drawing looks north along the statue's length, cutting through the figure to show how its interior is built. It shows the iron framework that Gustave Eiffel's firm designed to hold the copper skin in place, a structure that is less visible to visitors than the outer form. Engineers used drawings like this to coordinate the copper sheets with the internal braces and the stair that climbs through the body to the crown. Look closely at the thin lines of the framework, which reveal how the design balanced strength with the lightness needed for a figure this large.
