The bronze statue of John Paul Jones, the Scottish-born naval commander of the American Revolution, is the subject here, shown in Washington, D.C. The sculptor, Charles Henry Niehaus, completed the monument, which was dedicated in 1912, during the years when the National Photo Company was documenting the capital's landmarks for commercial sale. The record's date range of 1910 to 1925 is inferred from neighboring negatives, not from this one. Look closely at the glass itself: the streaks and blemishes come from age and deterioration of the original coating, and they add a physical record of the negative's long life.
