Göring is shown on horseback during a hunt, a detail that sets this August 1937 print apart from his more formal portraits. In those years he served as Reich Master of Hunting, a post he took seriously and that reflected his lifelong passion for the countryside and his estate at Carinhall. The photograph comes from a large personal album documenting his career, now held by the Library of Congress. It shows how the Nazi leadership often presented its senior figures as sportsmen and outdoorsmen, an image that was part of their public persona.
