Göring is shown mounted on horseback in an album of photographs from Carinhall, his hunting estate in the Schorfheide forest near Templin, north of Berlin. He named the estate for his first wife, Carin, and used it as a lavish retreat for hunting and entertaining guests. The album page carries the caption "Visit from the Nestlers," which suggests the ride was part of a social occasion at the estate. The photograph dates from between 1930 and 1945, when Göring held high office in the Nazi government. It is a useful record of how the regime's leaders presented their private leisure as part of their public image.
