This color lithograph shows Nubian women at Korti, a town on the Nile in what is now northern Sudan. It comes from *Egypt & Nubia*, the lavish series based on drawings David Roberts made on his travels in 1838 and 1839. Louis Haghe turned Roberts's sketches into stone-printed color plates, and F.G. Moon issued the work in parts in London between 1846 and 1849. Roberts's views of Egypt and Nubia reached a wide European audience at a time when few readers could see those places firsthand, so the plates helped shape how Britons imagined the region.
