Laxey Glen, a wooded ravine near the village of Laxey on the Isle of Man's east coast, is the setting for this view of a waterfall tumbling over rock. The record's "England" label is loose, since the island is a Crown dependency and not part of England. The print uses the photochrom process, a color method the Photochrom Co. of London applied to scenic views, and the Detroit Publishing Co. issued it in its 1905 catalog. Victorian and Edwardian travelers prized these soft, layered colors as keepsakes of places they had visited.
