Titled for Calvin Coolidge and Warren G. Harding and dated November 15, 1923, this group picture was made just over three months after Harding died in San Francisco on August 2 and Coolidge succeeded him as president. The title comes from data written by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented public life in the capital, so it reflects the studio's own labeling rather than a verified account of everyone in the frame. The glass negative was a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947, and its streaks and blemishes come from the natural deterioration of the original coatings.
