Titled *Camp Volusia or Fort Barnwell*, this hand-colored lithograph shows a military post on the St. Johns River in Florida, with steamboats moored along the water. Charleston publishers T.F. Gray and James issued it in 1837 as No. 1 of a set of eight *Views of Florida*, part of a wave of prints made during the Second Seminole War, which began in 1835. Steamboats were central to that conflict, carrying troops and supplies to inland posts, so the picture shows a supply line as much as a fort. Its pairing of military structures with river traffic makes it a useful record of how the war was fought along Florida's waterways.
