Little Tupper Lake lies in the northern Adirondacks, where by the late 1880s sportsmen and summer visitors were reaching the mountains by rail and guided boat. The print comes from S.R. Stoddard of Glens Falls, New York, whose studio sold numbered views of lakes, peaks and resort hotels to tourists who wanted a souvenir of their trip. Views like this one, numbered 405 on the caption card, document how the region looked before the state created the Adirondack Park in 1892. The c1888 date comes from an old, unverified caption card.
