The Wells of Moses, in the wilderness of Tyn, is a spot on the edge of the Sinai desert that tradition links to the Israelites' journey after the Red Sea crossing. David Roberts drew the scene on February 12, 1839, during his travels in Egypt and the surrounding desert. Louis Haghe then transferred the drawing to stone for *The Holy Land*, which F.G. Moon issued in parts between 1842 and 1845. The color lithograph shows how readers of the 1840s pictured the biblical landscape through a working artist's eyes.
