The Chain Bridge Hotel sits beside the suspension bridge that carries the road across the River Dee in the Berwyn Valley near Llangollen, in northeast Wales. Inns like this one served walkers, anglers, and coach travelers drawn to the valley's scenery in the late 1800s, when tourism in the region was growing. The print is a photochrom, a process that produced color images by printing a photograph through several lithographic stones, one per color. The Detroit Publishing Company issued it in its 1905 catalog, though the photograph itself was likely made in the 1890s.
