The Bear River crossing was a well-traveled stop on the overland route through northern Utah, and this 1861 stereograph shows the hotel built there to serve travelers. The card, part of a series titled *Utah Scenery*, looks south toward the northern spur of the Wasatch Mountains, which rise in the distance beyond the buildings. Stereo cards like this were sold for parlor viewing, where a lens fused the twin images into a single view with depth, giving armchair travelers a sense of the western frontier.
