A dining room at the Hotel Champlain, dated to about 1890, is the subject here, and the caption card names it as a resort hotel in the Adirondacks. The picture was made by S.R. Stoddard of Glens Falls, New York, a commercial photographer who produced views of hotels, lakes and resort scenery for travelers and guidebook buyers in those years. Resort hotels of the period relied on images like this to advertise comfort, and a large dining room with set tables was a point of pride. The location details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified, so they are worth reading with some caution.
