Printed in color by Strobridge & Co. of Cincinnati for O.P. Shattuck of Worcester, Massachusetts, this label advertises chewing tobacco under the name "Charm of the East." Strobridge was one of the busiest commercial lithography houses in the Midwest, and its tobacco labels were made to catch the eye on crowded shop shelves. The record also notes a copyright entry in the names of Allen & Ellis. The subject is listed as women, a common choice for 1870s labels, when manufacturers often paired attractive female figures with exotic titles to make a product memorable.
