The steamboat Zillah, named in the caption tracings, is the subject of this view on Yellowstone Lake, one of the largest high-elevation lakes on the continent. Before the park's roads were well developed, steamers like this one carried visitors across the water between hotels and landings, so the lake was a central part of many sightseeing trips. The Detroit Publishing Company produced color views of national parks and resorts for the travel market in the early twentieth century. The record dates the print only to between 1898 and 1914, so the exact year is uncertain.
