A sea wall runs along the water at Old Point Comfort in this view, with the Hotel Chamberlin standing at the right edge of the frame. Old Point Comfort, at the tip of the Virginia peninsula, drew resort visitors who arrived by steamer and rail, and the nearby Fort Monroe, a coastal army post, anchored the point. The Detroit Publishing Company produced many views like this for travel promotion in the early twentieth century, and this 8 by 10 inch glass negative records the waterfront as it looked to visitors around 1910 to 1920.
