Titled *Buccaroos*, this color lithograph reproduces an 1902 painting by Charles M. Russell, the Montana artist who spent years working alongside cowhands and drew his subjects from that life. The word "buccaroo," a variant of "buckaroo" that traces back to the Spanish *vaquero*, names the horsemen who worked the open range, and the print pairs riders with their mounts to show the rough, practical world of ranch work. Reproductions like this one, made around 1905, carried Russell's western scenes to viewers far from the cattle country, and the U.S. Copyright Office notation shows the image was registered for wider distribution.
