A color view of Fifth Avenue at Sixty-Fifth Street, made around 1901, captures a stretch of the avenue during its shift from a row of grand private residences toward a busier commercial boulevard. The Detroit Publishing Company produced it as a photochrom, a process that printed several lithographic stones to build color from a photographic original. The print is numbered in the company's series and comes from an album the firm kept as a catalog for its office, so it also shows how the company marketed American city scenes to travelers and collectors.
