Curtis Publishing Company's office buildings stand near Independence Hall in Philadelphia, pairing the city's colonial civic center with a thriving commercial enterprise. Curtis published the *Saturday Evening Post* and *Ladies' Home Journal*, and in the early twentieth century it ranked among the largest magazine publishers in the country. The picture survives as a glass negative made from a copy of an earlier print bearing a Rau Studios imprint, and it came to the Library of Congress through the Detroit Publishing Company collection. Its estimated date, between 1902 and 1920, falls in the years when the streets around the old statehouse were changing rapidly.
