From a lookout at the Montanesca on Mount Pocono, this view takes in the Delaware Water Gap, where the Delaware River breaks through the Kittatinny Ridge. The picture is an 8 by 10 inch glass negative made around 1905 by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that produced many travel views for resorts, railroads and tourists in that period. Its wide vantage over the ridges fits the popularity of mountain overlooks among early twentieth-century vacationers. The negative entered the State Historical Society of Colorado's holdings as a gift in 1949.
