The record for this glass negative names Anita Garibaldi, the Brazilian-born wife of Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi, though that title comes from unverified notes added by the National Photo Company. Anita fought alongside her husband in South America and Italy and died in 1849 while the pair was fleeing Austrian and papal forces after the fall of the Roman Republic. The negative is dated December 28, 1921, and its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the original coating.
