A bronze tribute to the poet Dante Alighieri was unveiled in Meridian Park in Washington, D.C., on December 1, 1921, and it was a gift from Italy. The National Photo Company recorded the occasion on a glass negative, with the title taken from the company's own 1921 caption list. Look for the streaks and small blemishes across the plate, which come from the natural deterioration of the original coatings rather than from the event itself.
