Old Orchard House stood in Old Orchard Beach, a Maine seaside resort that drew summer vacationers from across New England and beyond in the early 1900s. This view, made around 1904 on an 8 by 10 inch glass negative, presents the hotel as a fixture of the resort's busy season. The Detroit Publishing Company produced many views of American resorts, spas, and scenic sites, often to promote travel, and its photographs now give a useful record of how these destinations looked before the mid-century.
