Few sights drew more attention on the New York waterfront than a new Cunard liner making her first arrival, and this print records the Lusitania coming into port on September 13, 1907, during her maiden voyage from Liverpool. The photograph comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, whose news photographers documented the city's harbor and shipping in the early 1900s. The Lusitania, built on the Clyde and launched in 1906, was among the largest and fastest ships of her day, and that crossing helped establish her reputation on the Atlantic run.
