The catalog title only says "probably Pittsburgh," so the location is an inference, not a caption, and the cataloger's uncertainty is worth keeping in mind. In these years Pittsburgh's riverfronts, where the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio meet, were central to the city's steel and river trade. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made large glass-plate views like this 8 by 10 inch negative, produced many scenes of American cities and waterways for sale to the public.
