Few buildings in Boston carry as much Revolutionary history as the Old State House, seen here in a color photochrom from about 1900. Completed in 1713 as the seat of colonial government, the brick building stood at the head of State Street, where the Boston Massacre took place in the street outside in 1770. The Declaration of Independence was read from its balcony in July 1776. This print was issued by the Detroit Publishing Co., which used the photochrom process to produce color views of American sites, and it is one of many numbered images in that company's catalog.
