The record places this silkscreen poster in DuPage County, Illinois, tying a national Fourth of July holiday to a specific local community. It was produced under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists during the Depression and used silkscreen to make bold, inexpensive posters for public events and notices. A date stamp on the back reads June 22, 1939, three years after the design was made. The flat, layered color blocks are typical of the medium, which had to be cut and printed by hand.
