Hugh Bradley appears here in a glass negative of a Boston American League ballplayer, which places the picture in the city's early years of professional baseball. The date of 1912 is a bracketed estimate from research by the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee, not a note on the plate itself. That was the season Boston won the World Series and opened Fenway Park, and the Bain News Service supplied portraits like this one to newspapers that needed quick images of players. The small plate is a reminder of how sports pictures were gathered and distributed in that era.
