Shortstop Heinie Wagner of the Boston American League club, known in newspaper captions of the day as "Bosox," is the subject of this glass negative. Wagner was a dependable infielder for Boston through the 1910s and helped the team win World Series titles in 1912 and 1915. The plate came from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to papers across the country, and it reflects how quickly images from the ballpark moved into print.
