Pitcher Joe Wood of the Boston Americans, later known as the Red Sox, appears here at the Polo Grounds in New York, a site of the 1912 World Series against the New York Giants. Wood had a standout 1912 season, winning 34 games in the regular season, and he was one of the central figures in Boston's championship run. The Bain News Service, a commercial news photo agency, made the glass negative, and its caption identifies him only as a "Bosox" player. The title and date rest on later research by the Society for American Baseball Research.
