Pitcher Joe Wood stands at Fenway Park, the Boston ballpark that opened in April 1912 and housed the American League club the caption calls Boston AL. Wood had been one of the league's top arms in 1912, when he won 34 games and helped the Red Sox take the World Series, and he remained a headline pitcher in 1913. The glass negative came from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news pictures to newspapers, so it reflects the everyday press photography of the period.
