Joe Wood is pictured at Fenway Park in Boston, the ballpark the Red Sox had opened in 1912. Wood was one of the club's top pitchers in those years, winning 34 games in 1912 as Boston took that season's World Series. The catalog dates the negative to 1913, when Wood was still among the American League's best pitchers. The picture is one of the glass negatives made by the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency whose work captured ballplayers and newsworthy moments of the period.
