This Turkey Red cabinet card is one of the 1911 issues from the American Tobacco Company, a set named for the Turkey Red cigarette brand it promoted. Its image is a chromolithograph, a multicolor print made from stone or metal plates, with the color finished by hand. Cards like this were inserted into tobacco packages as premiums, so they reached a wide audience of adult men who collected them as a form of brand loyalty. The cabinet format is larger than the pocket-sized cards that came later, which gives the artwork more room to show a player's pose and uniform.
