Among the Library's baseball cards, this one stands out for its size and color. The "Turkey Red" name refers to the bright, rich red used in the design of this series, which was issued as cabinet-size cards. Made in 1911 by the American Tobacco Company, these chromolithographs were hand-colored and sold with cigarettes, where they doubled as collectibles and advertising. The card belongs to the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, and its title was devised by Library staff because the record does not give a player's name.
