Three glass negatives join into a single wide view from the heights of Lookout Mountain, looking down on Moccasin Bend, where the Tennessee River loops around the edge of Chattanooga. Photographed in May 1902 by the Detroit Photographic Company, the panorama reflects the period's appetite for scenic travel views. Lookout Mountain was the site of the Battle of Lookout Mountain in November 1863, and by the early twentieth century the overlook drew tourists who came to see the battlefield and the valley below. The panorama shows how the river, the city and the surrounding ridges fit together in one sweep.
