This three-part panorama looks out from Lookout Mountain over Moccasin Bend, the great loop of the Tennessee River, with Chattanooga spread across the valley below. The Detroit Photographic Company made the views in May 1902, when it was assembling a large body of American scenery and town views. The mountain is also remembered for the Battle of Lookout Mountain in November 1863, fought during the Civil War, which adds historical weight to the landscape. Notice how the river winds through the flat valley toward the distant ridges.
