The title "[Chicago Lake]" was supplied by Library staff rather than printed on the card, and the card belongs to a series called *Beauties of the Rocky Mountains*, so the scene is most likely alpine water in the Rockies rather than anything in Chicago. Its subject heading points to dwellings in New Hampshire, a mismatch that the record does not explain. Made in 1869, it is an albumen print mounted on stereo card, a format built for viewing in a stereoscope, which gave Victorian audiences a sense of depth in landscapes they might never see in person. The card came to the Library through the collection of Marian S. Carson.
