The title on this glass negative gives only a surname, Blackburne, and the record notes that even this comes from caption cards and has not been verified, so the subject is best read as an open question. It is one of the Chicago views in the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain's news service supplied photographs of people, streets and events to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives from that period often preserve the dress, vehicles and street life of the city as it was then. Because the identification is uncertain, the image is most useful as a record of its time and place rather than as a documented portrait.
