This glass negative is titled simply "Chicago Convention," but the record gives no date and notes that the title comes from unverified Bain News Service data, so the specific gathering it shows is uncertain. Chicago hosted several national party conventions in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and the city's large halls drew delegates, reporters and crowds to them. The Bain News Service, a wire photo agency active in the 1900s and 1910s, sent photographers to events like these, so the image likely records a scene of delegates, banners or hall crowds. Viewers should check the subject against the surrounding negatives and caption cards before relying on the title.
