The Palace stood on Broadway at West 47th Street, a house that opened in 1913 under Martin Beck and soon became the most prestigious stop on the vaudeville circuit, where performers counted a booking there as proof they had arrived. This c1920 photoprint from the American Studio series captures the theater during the years when that reputation was at its height. Its caption card files the view under theaters and city geography, a reminder of how the Times Square district grew up around houses like this one. The record's details are unverified, so treat the date as approximate.
