The Ziegfeld theater stood at 1341 Sixth Avenue, at the corner of 54th Street, and this view from about 1931 shows it while it was still one of the most glamorous houses on Broadway's midtown stretch. Florenz Ziegfeld built it in 1927 to showcase his productions, and Joseph Urban designed its lavish interior, which blended theatrical and modern styles. The photograph is by Irving Underhill, a commercial photographer known for his street and building views, so it documents the theater as a working landmark of its era. The building was demolished in 1966.
