The Trans-Lux theater at 58th Street and Madison Avenue was one of the newsreel and short-subject houses that drew crowds in New York during the early 1930s, when a feature film often shared the bill with news clips and shorts. This photograph, dated about 1931, focuses on the entrance itself: the turnstile through which patrons passed and the ticket booth beside it. Such a setup shows how a movie house managed a steady flow of customers at a time when moviegoing was one of the cheapest forms of entertainment. The print was issued under the copyright of the Trans-Lux Movies Corporation, a company that also built projection and display equipment.
