Park Row and Nassau Street sit at the edge of City Hall Park, where the street leads toward the Brooklyn Bridge approach. In the early 1900s this stretch was known as Newspaper Row, lined with the offices of major daily papers, and the streets were crowded with horse traffic, streetcars, and pedestrians heading to the bridge and the business district. The record's date of about 1916 places the scene just before the United States entered the First World War, a period when the district was still a busy center of city journalism. The date and details come from an unverified caption card, so the exact view is worth checking against other sources.
