A silkscreen poster from the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project announces the International Exhibition of Water Colors at the Art Institute of Chicago in the spring of 1939. The museum had long hosted watercolor shows that drew entries from artists in many countries, and the exhibition was a regular part of the city's cultural calendar. The Federal Art Project used silkscreen because it was inexpensive and could be reproduced in quantity, which made it well suited to publicizing public events. A date stamp on the back, April 24, 1939, records when the print was processed.
